Jordan Hokanson

President & CEO

Jordan is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Hokanson Capital – an Edmonton-based, multifaceted capital investment company with a keen eye for recognizing opportunity, both locally and abroad. His integrity and relationship-focused strategy comes from understanding the importance of sharing information and the ability to identify win-win opportunities. That understanding and ability has helped Hokanson Capital, along with its stakeholders and partners, succeed. He is an active Edmonton community member through his board service and other involvements, and has served as a director on a number of community boards in Alberta. He is also an active member of YPO, the premier leadership organization of chief executives. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (1998) from the University of Western Ontario, his Petroleum Engineering Technology Diploma (2000) from NAIT and his MBA (2006) from the University of Alberta.

Brad Gechel

Chief Financial Officer

Brad is an operationally and strategically focused financial executive with experience in high growth mid-market supply and service entities including oilfield services, construction and automotive collision repair. His expansive skill set includes strategy, M&A acquisition and divestiture, governance models, corporate financing, treasury and risk management, and financial process development. When not in the office, Brad enjoys time with his family at their cabin, and any and all sports, whether it’s playing hockey or golf or watching his two children in their sporting activities. Brad has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba and his CPA, CA designation.

Rachael McEachern

Vice President

Rachael has spent a large portion of her career as a management consultant working within an operations, sales and marketing capacity across North America. She has worked on pivotal projects for large Fortune 100 broadband operators in North America, as well as small-to-mid-size Alberta-based companies. When she’s not in the office, Rachael enjoys the laughter, unpredictability and adventure of her three young kids.

Greg Spicer

Private Equity

Greg brings considerable experience with small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). He began his career as an underwriter, leading RoyNat Capital’s subordinate debt and equity portfolio growth in northern Alberta from 1981 to 1995. He then worked as a consultant, often on a free-lance basis, but also with PWC as a Director of Corporate Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions. Consultancy work often led to active senior management roles and such was the case with Greg’s work career. Over the years he has served as a CFO, senior Vice President and COO/President, usually with service, distribution and/or manufacturing companies based in western Canada, and often with international market reach. All of his roles have included very specific achievement mandates. In total, Greg spent approximately 20 years of his work career in SME operational roles. Now, Greg continues to help HCI hone its investment strategy and grow its portfolio businesses successfully.

We are a family-owned business who respects, values and listens to the input, governance and direction from our board of directors. Our board is comprised of experts in the key industries where we invest, along with family members who share our vision and values for Hokanson Capital. We run Hokanson Capital according to the same, exacting standards as a public company and expect our partners to do the same.

Bob Normand

Chairman of the Board

Bob retired from the position of President and CEO of ATB Financial in 2008. Prior to joining ATB, he held senior positions in the Bank of Montreal where he worked for 26 years. He is currently a director of Canadian Utilities and ATCO, as well as past chair of the Workers’ Compensation Board of Alberta.

Art Froehlich

Art is currently a strategic advisor with AdFarm, one of North America’s largest agriculture, food marketing and communications companies. Over the last 30 years he has held senior positions with Hoechst Canada Inc., Alberta Pool and Westcan Malting. He currently sits on many corporate boards including Richardson International Ltd., Olds College, AVAC Ltd. and AgWest Biosciences.

Larry Ruud

Larry has been actively involved in farming and ranching for over 25 years, with positions in ownership, management and operations. He is co-founder of Raised Right Pets, a pet food and treat business based in the USA. Larry is a past director of Viterra and a former partner of Meyers Norris Penny where he led their agriculture management consulting team.

Catherine M. Roozen

Following graduation from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1977, Mrs. Roozen worked with the North West Trust Company until 1981 in the area of Branch Operations and as Vice-President, Investments. In 1981, Mrs. Roozen joined Cathton Investments Ltd., a private investment company with interests in banking, broadcasting, ranching and real estate development. Currently, Mrs. Roozen is a Director and Secretary of the Allard Foundation Ltd., Chair and Director of Cathton Investments Ltd. and a director of Melcor Developments Ltd., Corus Entertainment and EPCOR.

Jonathan Hokanson

Jonathan is the founder and past-President of Standard Scaffold & Insulation Inc. He is now a partner in First Choice Scaffolding focused on the commercial scaffolding market in the Edmonton area. In 2014, he was honoured for his business acumen with the Business in Edmonton Leaders of Tomorrow award.

Rod Graham

As President and CEO of Horizon North, Rob is responsible for overall operations and management. He was a member of the Horizon North Board of Directors from 2007 to 2014 and served as Chairman of the Board from 2012 to 2014. From 2010 to 2012 he was the President and CEO of ZCL Composites Inc. Prior to his role at ZCL, he was Co-founder and Managing Director of Northern Plains Capital Corporation, a Calgary based private equity firm focused on investing in oilfield and energy industrial companies. From 1998 to 2004, he worked at Peters & Co. Limited in institutional sales and with ARC Financial Corporation serving as Senior Vice President and Director. Rod holds an HBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and a CFA and MBA (Ivey Scholar) from the University of Western Ontario. He has served on multiple public, private and not-for-profit boards and is a current member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the Business Council of Canada.
